    If you retire from government job , you will be sure for getting certain dollar amount every month but in privet and corporation they invest and growth depends on the investment portfolio you choose and their future performance? which is uncertain.

    This is a Thrift Savings Plan, rather than 401k but grew nicely during that time. Helpful staff when I left service to rollover to something equivalent.
