    Financial aid is great at UC Davis. Most in-state students will get some form of aid or another based on your family income.

    Fair and reasonable benefits package. However, paid parental leave is terrible (1 month). A minimum of 6-mo leave (can be at reduced pay) is needed to adequately care for children. This is especially relevant to postdocs, who typically are entering the family planning stage of their life. A person should not have to choose between career and childbirth, but this policy in effect promotes delaying or limiting family growth.

    Pretty decent health insurance. The on-campus clinic has a wide range of services, but it takes 1-2 months to get appointments with specialists.
