You get an obscene amount of vacation - 2 vacation/1 sick days accrued per month, all federal holidays, and then some additional state ones. 401k options are with Fidelity and they do an 8% match for the UC DCP. Health insurance is better than average. They offer Anthem PPO, Kaiser HMO, and some UC based options. This is all available on their website to view. Dental and Vision are also included.

No benefits to mention as a contract employee
Working part time as a full time student: they set up a retirement plan for you supposedly but give you no information or resources on it. I have no idea what I am supposed to do with it. Other than that, I do not know of any other benefits UCSC offers for part time workers.
Average Benefits. Workman's Comp and disability is woeful. You have a waiting period of 30-60 days to receive benefits.

The UC system has a reputation for offering excellent medical and retirement benefits. many cost options and many providers from which to choose. I'm not sure if this is true for all, but for some employees, they offer free dental and vision insurance.
