Benefits package at the UN is very good. I get 6 weeks vacation a year, pension fund, good medical coverage. An extra bonus is federal income tax is covered.
Generous benefits for staff, especially international hires. Consultants have less benefits and a less predictable life-span at the UN in general. So, what do you get when you join, assuming you are hired from outside of the US? Example is for a P-4 Staff member with 3 dependents starting out in NYC: Family move: $18,000 Installation grant, which is a month's salary up-front. $11,216 Funds to accommodate your first 30 days in NYC (Hotel or temp quarters- no receipts required): $32,250 Education grant, home leave every 2 years (cash, so you generally end up with vacay money too). Good annual leave allowance: 30 days per yer from the first year. Pension fund is almost unheard of: employee contributes 7.9 percent of their salary, the UN matches that, twice fold. US citizens get their taxes (both federal and state) paid for them.
The UN conditions of service for staff members is generally predictable in most parts of the world and available to view online. The package will include a tax free base salary, plus post-adjustment connected to the location. In addition, depending on the type of contract and location, there may be additional allowances, such as rental subsidy, education allowances, hazard pay. Generally 6 weeks of leave are provided.
The benefits package for staff members is very generous. There is no benefits package for consultants or temporary staff (no vacation, health plan, insurance, pension).
great salary for the international staff, not so good for local staff.
Generous tuition support for your children's education, paid trip for all family to my home country every 2 years, relocation package when you join and when you leave to go back to your country, 30 days paid vacation plus 10 official holidays, 16 weeks maternity leave.
Salary is quite good, benefits include education grant, rental allowance, pension fund, medical insurance, relocation package, family allowance and more.
Only salary. No benefits for consultants (individual contractor)
Health, maternity, pension, paid vacation and sick days
UN has it own Pension Fund system.
