Retirement Plan is the best thing. TSP's Lifecycle funds is a wonderful tool. Worst thing is that there is not a central website or a SSO to access all of these benefits.

The Customs and Border Protection Officer position (CBPO) possesses a unique pay or compensation package in the U.S. It is governed by the COPRA or Customs Officer Pay Reform Act which was established during the Clinton administration. Since it is a Law Enforcement and national security-classified position, it requires passion: to country over self. The pay does not initially compete with large municipal law enforcement agencies, nor does it necessarily present the constant danger of a patrolling constable's tour -- land borders can be an exception. The best things are this: exemplary work gets you increasingly greater positions of trust and independence. Lousy stuff?: Every officer starts off contacting U.S. and non U.S. persons attempting entry. Legit or not, the contacts can be humdrum, but it's the weird or the unusual contact that teaches you some interesting life lessons! Super generous retirement savings plan, vacations do not exist on holidays for the initial years. Overall, it is a rewarding job, if you make it to be rewarding

Worse is no flex work hours, no telework, you will be made to work all holidays, all weekends, no seniority. No family quality life at any stage of career. Regardless where you work in the US for CBP. Their EAP mental health is for all the stress they will incur in your life and most people wind up divorced, with heart attacks, high blood pressure, diabetes, and acid reflux because of how stressful management makes the job. Not the people public but poor management treatment of employees in past 20 years and will not change. Save yourself and health, not worth it unless you don't care then you will be like them.

You receive time-off and sick leave every pay period. You can enroll in 401k as well.

I had to get surgery unexpectedly and CBP worked with me to get advanced leave for two weeks. Other benefits like the Employee Assistance Program and gym access are great.
