Great that you get a 401K (TSP) with 5% match. Also nice that it comes with a pension if you stay with the federal government for the long time.

The worst thing is that part of the retirement system depends largely on social security, which may or may not be available at your time of retirement.

StarStarStarStarStar Current Special Agent FBI in Augusta, Georgia

Pension plan based on years of service and a matching 401K plan

StarStarStarStarStar Current Budget Analyst in Oxford, Wisconsin

401K match up to 5%, roughly 33% of your highest 3 earning years in a pension, plus social security. The system is what you make it, like with most employers.

The retirement plan at the department of Justice is just like all the other govt retirement plans. They take out a fixed amount very paycheck depending on your salary.
