401k equivalent is the thrift savings plan.
Must serve a minimum of 20 years to get a 50% salary retirement. Each year over 20, gains another 2.5% per year. Benefit can be drawn immediately upon retirement regardless of age. Do not have to wait until 65 like many other retirement plans.
Don’t start it until later on after graduation but it’s nice from what I hear

If you can last 20 years then more power to you. You'll get a pension AND disability benefits. Niiiiice.
Legacy plan is 50% after 20 years served with 2.5% after each addition year. New plan is more like a matching 401K .
