TRS, and optional 403B is a great start.
The benefit of it comes upon retirement, however, the cost until that time is extreme because it is mandatory to contribute and it is almost 8% of gross with annual increases and no knowledge of a capped contribution percentage.
Company matches you dollar for dollar. After 5 years, you are considered fully invested with the state of Texas.
Retirement for most staff is through TRS.

UTSW offers the TRS retirement program through the state of texas. I wish I could contribute more to the plan so I could have more money set aside for retirement. There is only a fixed percentage that all employees contribute to the plan.
Not a very good retirement plan. you will need additional plans
