    My group is very flexible. Not sure if it's the same across the board, but I'm able to work from home or take off as much time as I need. With the caveat that I get all of my work done.

    Vacation period and time off is paid only if you are a member o faculty, otherwise it is extremely hard to do so.

    It is completely dependent on the Professor who you work for. If you have completed the work that you promised to finish, you are eligible to take a vacation. I usually take no more than 3 weeks in the entire year.
