Working for UTA gives the feel of being in the real world, while still allowing its student staff to be college students
Overall development which helps in academic success as well
I have worked as a GTA for three semesters and I got a chance to learn a lot about the subjects I was a TA for and students and professors were friendly . Good place for development
It seems the department likes to hire from exterior sources. They do not like hiring from within to help develop current employees.
I was a graduate student, so my experience was all about professional development. The faculty are uniformly excellent in that respect with one exception--but that individual has since retired.
Staff at Student Accounts is good. Encouraging and helps you learn the things.
Professional development training opportunities cover a wide variety of topics. Many of them lead to certificates. For example, it took me two years but I received two certificates: Core Essentials Professional Program certificate and the Administrative Professional Program, Level IV certificate. There's also a Trailblazers certificate program for supervisors. If you want the training, there's lots to offer. The main issue is getting supervisory approval. Some supervisors aren't as flexible to allow you to go. Thankfully, mine has been very understanding and supportive. It's kind of a hit and miss though as I know people who have been here for years and have yet to attend one of these professional development meetings.
