I can take them as needed and it does not affect pay, significantly. There also programs for extended leave of absence.
You start with a bank of 176 sick hours and then start getting 130 a year after 1.5 years of employment (kind of confusing).

Excellent sick leave benefit, markedly better than most other companies and organizations. This is a benefit that keeps employees at the UW-Madison, which makes them competitive with regard to other organizations/companies. However, as companies begin to have to make incentive packages for employees more attractive as appropriate candidates will begin to decline with baby boomers beginning to retire and job vacancies sprout up aplenty, this benefit in and of itself may not be enough to attract talent.
