    New York State rules require maternity and paternity leave, a small contribution to paid leave is now deducted from your pay

    In the US, Maternity leave is considered a medical disability and uses that benefit. They follow the law and have an available job for you when you come back. Paternity leave I don't have experience with, but I have colleagues who have used it and it seemed to be ok

    You get 6 weeks of maternity for VBAC, and 8 weeks for c-section. You can have up to 12 weeks of family medical leave without losing your position.
