What does an Applications Support Analyst do?
Applications support analysts oversee the installing, configuration, and implementation of computer applications. They evaluate an organization’s existing software and application setup and identify areas for potential improvement by making application changes. These analysts make recommendations as to the selection and customization of applications to best align with user needs and high-level goals related to budget and productivity. They provide ongoing assistance for application users, including troubleshooting problems and resolving issues.
Applications support analysts typically have a bachelor’s degree in a computer science field, or a technical degree/certification combined with equivalent professional experience. They often will have previously worked in tech support, as an applications specialist, or in another related role. These roles require expertise in installing, implementing, and troubleshooting software applications. These analysts must have excellent communication and customer support skills.
- Maintain required paperwork: daily logs, progress notes, incident reporting.
- Diagnose and respond to customer support service call requests.
- Ensure change management process is followed and production change documentation follows.
- Ensure proper documentation for recordkeeping, change control, and configuration maintenance.
- Propose (and in some cases implement) solutions in a team setting, backed by compelling analysis).
- Strive to minimize total systems cost, while maximizing production.
- Select to-do tasks from a list to complete by due dates.
- Implement developed applications and provide customer support of applications.
- Bachelor's or Graduate's Degree in computer science, information technology, or mathematics or equivalent experience.
- Experience with Linux, UNIX, Oracle Siebel, and Python.
- Fluency in scripting using assigned software.
- Familiar with cloud software and applications.
- Possesses strong time management and collaboration skills.
- A critical thinker and problem solver.
- Use leadership skills to diagnose and assist with issues.
