What does an Applications Support Specialist do?
Applications support specialists provide assistance related to the installation, operation, and maintenance of computer software application programs. They are typically the contact person who would receive and handle support tickets and resolve support-related issues. They may provide hands-on technical maintenance or walk users through a troubleshooting and resolution process by phone or through electronic platforms such as real-time chat. They may track support records and analyze data to identify patterns of common issues.
Applications support specialists often have at least an associate degree or technical degree/certification in a computer or IT discipline, or an equivalent amount of work experience. They must have in-depth familiarity with common software applications and related tools, particularly those considered essential or standard in that industry or organization. These roles require strong communication skills and advanced customer service capabilities.
