What does a Chemistry Teacher do?

Chemistry teachers help students learn about compounds, elements, molecules, and chemical reactions and are employed in high schools and use their skills to educate and inspire the student body. They may also develop a syllabus, oversee experiments, and accompany students on related field trips. Chemistry teachers must be fluent in the curriculum and develop schedules, lesson plans, and teaching methods to cover the required content. Chemistry teachers grade tests and assignments, demonstrate experiments, and grade students fairly while ensuring appropriate resources and consultation times are available to students if needed. They may be called upon to mentor and provide support to student teachers. They attend staff and parent meetings, workshops, and other continuing education programs. They handle various administrative functions, including updating student records or tracking lab supplies and equipment, and ensuring a safe, healthy classroom environment exists for learning to occur.
