The University of Connecticut (UConn) was founded in 1881 as the Storrs Agricultural School. It's grown a lot since then: More than 28,000 undergraduate, graduate, and professional students receive instruction through UConn's six campuses and 14 colleges and schools, including schools of law and social work and a graduate business learning center in Hartford, as well as schools of medicine and dental medicine and the University of Connecticut Health Center in Farmington. UConn offers about 100 undergraduate majors, more than 15 graduate programs in some 90 fields of study, and five professional degree programs. It confers more than 6,500 degrees annually.

The research university offers a wide variety of bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degree programs, with more than 250 majors through 17 schools teaching a range of disciplines including nursing, journalism, and engineering. It has an enrollment of about 70,000 undergraduate, graduate, and professional students on its four campuses in metropolitan Phoenix; most students attend the Tempe campus. The university has a student-teacher ratio of 23:1. ASU was founded in 1885 as a teachers college.

These dragons don't need slaying, just a good education. Drexel University (home of the Drexel Dragons) is a private, coeducational institution of higher learning with an enrollment of approximately 20,000 undergraduate and graduate students and a student-teacher ratio of about 17:1. It operates more than a dozen schools and colleges in the US; the Drexel University College of Medicine is the one of the country's largest private medical schools. Drexel runs a mandatory co-operative education program that helps students gain real-world experience while supplying local employers with trained workers. Internships are also available in Europe, Asia, and South America.

Texas A&M opened its doors in 1876 as the state's first public institution of higher learning. Indiana University has been schooling Hoosiers since 1820. In 1828 the legislature changed the name of the institution to Indiana College, and in 1838 it established Indiana University. Indiana University has a student teacher ratio of about 21:1.
