Petco is a category-defining health and wellness company focused on improving the lives of pets, pet parents and our own Petco partners. Since our founding in 1965, we’ve been trailblazing new standards in pet care, delivering comprehensive wellness solutions through our products and services, and creating communities that deepen the pet-pet parent bond. We employ more than 25,000 partners and operate more than 1,500 Petco locations across the U.S., Mexico and Puerto Rico, including a growing network of more than 100 in-store veterinary hospitals, and offer a complete online resource for pet health and wellness at petco.com and on the Petco app. The Petco Foundation, an independent nonprofit organization, has invested more than $280 million since it was created in 1999 to help promote and improve the welfare of companion animals. In tandem with the Petco Foundation, an independent nonprofit organization, through in-store adoption events, we’ve helped find homes for more than 6.5 million animals.
Suburban K9 was founded in 2006 by Matt Covey. Matt got his start working with rescue groups and humane societies, working with the dogs that were not being adopted out because of their behaviors. Matt worked with these dogs, and rehabilitated their behaviors. Once a dog was adopted out, Matt would work with the dog, as well as the dog's new family, to make sure that everyone was happy going forward and the family knew how to continue making progress with the dog's training. This kept dogs from being returned to the shelter. The families that Matt worked with told their friends and families about Matt, and the company was born through word of mouth. At this time, we started to work with more of the general public and we hired our first additional trainers. We have been growing ever since!
