The name really says it all for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The lead federal agency for protecting the health and safety of US citizens, the CDC investigates health problems, performs research, and develops public health policies as well as developing and applying disease prevention and control. It is one of the major operating components of the Department of Health and Human Services and comprises seven coordinating centers and the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health. The CDC, which has nine US locations and workers in more than 50 countries, partners with public and private entities to improve the flow of information throughout the health care community.

Created by Congress in 1983 to accelerate progress in military medicine, the Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine (HJF) is a global nonprofit organization providing investigators and clinicians scientific, administrative and program management services. It may be the windy city, or even the "Second City" but Chicago has much more going for it than memorable nicknames.
