What does a Histology Tech do?

Histotechnologists are technicians who organize and prepare samples in a medical laboratory or research facility. They get samples and slides ready for analysis by a pathologist or other specialist. They are responsible for maintaining quality control standards in the laboratory, abiding by all sanitation and sterilization protocol, and ensuring all processes adhere to department policies and regulations. They prepare solutions and other materials, and maintain and clean lab equipment and tools.

Histotechnologists typically have at least an associate degree in biology or have completed a histotechnology training program. They also have obtained a Histotechnologist certification from the American Society of Clinical Pathologists. They typically have a background as a lab assistant or other support roles. These positions require meticulous attention to detail and in-depth understanding of lab safety and sanitation procedures.
