What does a HR Representative do?

HR representatives are responsible for a range of human resources duties, often with a primary focus on recruiting, hiring, and talent retention. They develop and oversee recruitment initiatives, which may include outreach via social media and online platforms. They supervise the onboarding and training process, and may also conduct exit interviews. They may also play a role in the administration of benefits, and ensure that staff and the organization are in compliance with all applicable labor laws.

HR representatives typically have a bachelor’s degree in HR, labor relations, or a similar field. They have a background in human resources, and have familiarity with all phases of the recruitment and hiring process. Expertise in a specific HR area such as benefits or talent retention is an advantage.

What responsibilities are common for HR Representative jobs?
  • Provide coaching to leaders and managers to maximize employee engagement, development, and performance.
  • Ensure HR processes are in compliance with all regulations and laws.
  • Provide human resource systems reporting support for end users.
  • Perform data entry into HR database and run various reports.
  • Provide routine information to internal clients on HR processes and policies.
  • Assist with projects, such as Open Enrollment.
  • Maintain case management technology to accurately log issues and notes for case assigned under stringent legal department requirements.
  • Maintain confidentiality of department and associate information according to established practice within HIPAA and NPPI guidelines.
  • Drive development of new policies and procedures as necessary to support the business.
  • Backup payroll processing as needed (process payroll, maintain time and attendance system).
  • Write professional reports, prepare presentations and other business correspondence.
  • Conduct data analysis to drive actions and outcomes on HR related projects in support of the business functions.
  • Interface across departments in order to deliver support and consultation with people leaders and associates that support the strategic objectives of the organization.
  • Lead change control processes for the area of responsibility and is a key member of the application or regional implementation team for application upgrades, new or changing solutions, and new integrations.
  • Maintain functional system documentation for assigned technologies and/or regions including change documentation.
  • Resolve complex user requests and system issues, leads user training.
  • Serve as a liaison between management and employees by handling questions and interpreting and administering policy.
  • Manage leave coordination and consults for FMLA, STD, LTD, Military Leave, Compelling Leave, Bereavement, Jury Duty, etc.
