What does an IT Project Coordinator do?
Information technology (IT) project coordinators may coordinate project phases and schedules, arrange support services, order supplies, and track the project’s progress. They typically report to a project manager and serve as a department liaison to product developers and marketing executives. They coordinate project management activities, resources, equipment, and information and break projects into doable actions while setting realistic project timeframes. They liaise with clients to identify and define their requirements, scope, and objectives and assign tasks to internal teams.
IT project coordinators assist with schedule management and ensure clients’ needs are met as projects evolve. They analyze risks and opportunities and act as the point of contact and communication, relaying project status information to relevant parties. IT coordinators monitor progress and resolve any issues that arise during the project, including collaboration with project managers to eliminate blockers. They issue appropriate paperwork and create and maintain comprehensive project documentation, plans, and reports. IT managers need a minimum bachelor’s degree in IT, computer science, or related fields.
