What does an Outbound Sales Representative do?

Outbound sales representatives perform sales tasks by initiating contact with prospects and customers. This contact often occurs by phone but may also involve electronic communication methods such as email. They identify leads and compile a contact list or obtain a prospect list from another source. They make cold calls to pitch products and services. They are sometimes responsible for making initial connections to give a preliminary pitch and gauge interest, and then forward these warm leads to an account executive or other sales staff member to pursue. They are commonly expected to meet specified sales quotas.

Outbound sales representatives have a high school diploma and often have a background in sales or customer service. They must have good communication skills and the ability to deliver a persuasive sales pitch by phone or other means of communication.

What responsibilities are common for Outbound Sales Representative jobs?
  • Implement, manage, and track goals for individual outbound lenders.
  • Provide leadership, training and daily management of the team .
  • Teach and coach account and renewal managers on use of the outbound tools, sequences and processes.
  • Ensure associates' daily performance goals are met.
  • Identify issues affecting customer satisfaction caused by operational issues and act as a key change agent for the organization in developing solutions.
  • Assist in identifying staffing needs and participate in the selection process.
  • Develop outbound approaches and messaging for install base sales teams that lead to higher levels of customer engagement and expansion pipeline.
  • Implement the outbound programs directly and through account and renewal managers.
  • Regularly report on key individual and team metrics to identify strengths and areas for improvement.
  • Collaborate with marketing team members to obtain and advise on content that will support your approaches and messaging.
  • Monitor productivity and results relative to established objectives and ensure appropriate steps are taken to achieve sales goals and maintain high levels of member satisfaction.
  • Conduct research, analyze, and make recommendations for enhancements and new consumer lending call lists.
