What does a Public Safety Dispatcher do?

Public safety officers serve the public and provide services to local entities including police, firefighting, and rescue squats. They also provide public safety and law enforcement services at facilities including universities or state buildings. Public safety officers patrol assigned areas to observe and investigate suspicious behavior. They are responsible for law enforcement and apprehending suspects, and preparing incident reports. Public safety officers ensure the people and property on their designated watch are safe and respond to calls and investigate and report suspicious incidents and activities.

Public safety officers involved in an incident will secure and record evidence and interview bystanders, witnesses, and victims, and when fitting, they assist in apprehending suspects and perpetrators. They are responsible for preparing accident and crime reports and helping the public with criminal and civil issues or questions and concerns. At public gatherings, they direct traffic and maintain order. Public safety officers need a minimum high school diploma or equivalency, including a GED and certification as a law enforcement officer.
