What does a QC Manager do?

QC managers have senior level responsibility for directing the quality control department, usually of a manufacturing or production operation. They perform or oversee testing and inspection processes and quality verification procedures. They recruit, hire, train, and supervise a team of QC specialists, analysts, and support staff. They develop, implement, and enforce department policies and protocol, and verify that staff are upholding mandatory quality standards. What responsibilities are common for QC Manager jobs?
  • Maintain QC objectives complementary to company policies and goals.
  • Report out on product quality metrics no less than quarterly.
  • Lead all regulatory, internal management, and board QC reporting.
  • Indoctrination, recurrent and any necessary update training of assigned inspectors.
  • Review of design test plans, test cases and scripts.
  • Coordinate daily work assignments and overall coverage to ensure adherence with service levels.
  • Collect and analyze metrics related to QC deviations NOE, GLIFs, EOEs.
  • Represent QC on project teams and in meetings as required.
  • Recommend and take corrective action in compliance with quality audits, issues, etc.
  • Maintain inspector schedules to ensure adequate coverage is provided.
  • Act as advisor and mentor for junior members of the team.
  • Monitor quality key measures and trends for adherence to targets.
  • Collaborate on the preparation of technical proposals, amendments, reports and memoranda.
  • Serve as a QC trainer and team coach.
  • Frequent product testing for quality and adherence to protocols and regulations.
  • Provide effective leadership and management.
  • Generate certificates of analysis to support internal manufacturing products.
  • Identify, recommend and implement process improvements to enhance testing strategies.
  • Maintain all laboratory certifications and monitor technicians for accuracy and precision.
  • Oversee and participate in the internal audit program of quality systems.
