What does a Telemetry Technician do?

Telemetry technicians are healthcare professionals who are responsible for monitoring and evaluating a patient’s cardiac activity and heart rhythms in a medical setting. They provide direct care to patients who are receiving telemetry services, and observe telemetry monitors for any alerts of other signs of unusual activity. Their duties include performing cardiac testing and procedures such as stress tests and evaluations involving Holter monitors. They review and interpret cardiac monitor readings and test results. They also perform administrative tasks such as compiling reports and patient records.

Telemetry technicians often have an associate degree in telemetry, cardiovascular technology, or a related field, although an on-the-job training program is also frequently acceptable. They should have hands-on experience performing various cardiac tests and procedures. These roles require in-depth familiarity with cardiac monitors and other telemetry equipment.
