A visual merchandiser works in retail sales and develops creative visual concepts to build attractive store displays. A visual merchandiser uses creativity and combines the brand's goals with the customer's desires. They encourage potential customers to enter stores and purchase merchandise. Additionally, a visual merchandiser will create floor plans for retail space and situates displays in an ideal position to encourage sales. They use marketing strategy and a creative approach to sales in order to promote the company's image visually.
A high school diploma or equivalent degree is necessary to become a visual merchandiser. Many employers prefer advanced degrees in fashion, graphic design or a business-related field. Training within the company is generally required in order to fully understand the brand's image and message to be marketed. Individuals with experience in marketing strategy and a keen eye for design tend to excel in the position of visual merchandiser.

- Participate in meetings with other departments within the store to determine areas to be addressed and improved upon

- Design marketing strategies to announce promotions, sales and coming special events within the store
- High school diploma is required, an advanced degree in business, marketing or related field preferred
- Detailed knowledge of the product and industry preferred
- Ability to work diligently with little supervision
- Confident in creating and communicating concepts in business meetings and to supervisors
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential
