Haut got my salary increase this week and not very happy about it, I'm thinking of negotiating next week but I'm not sure how much I should ask for. I'm an group insurance underwriter with 2 years experience and they just pumped my salary from 56 k to 60k. I feel I should be around 65k. Anyone with advice! Thanks

- Two years you should definitely be at the 65k mark! Considering you just received a 4k pay increase an additional 5k may sound unreasonable at this time.LikeReply26
- The insurance industry has been hit hard by inflation. All of the companies I know are cutting budgets, freezing hiring, and pausing on promotions. This may be a tough year to negotiate a better raise.LikeReply28
- It may be tough to get that high of a jump at this point, however you could ask what does my route to making $65 look like (or being promoted) and mention how you were hoping to be at $65 by Q3 why you feel that way (results/ metrics of you exceeding) and determine a timeline. This will give you a good read on if it’s worth your time to stay at your current company. I think it’s low for your experience but I don’t do group insurance so I am not positive.LikeReply24
- You’re making around what I was at that level. That was before the past few years of inflation of course, but you still saw a higher salary increase in terms of percentages than most people in the industry have. So I feel your pain with how much higher the cost of living is but I would urge against pushing back on a very good annual raise. I mean feel free to send out some applications and see what else you get offered if you really think you deserve more. Cause you’ll only get more externally..LikeReply17
- You’re actually higher than what I was at that level. We also had a salary freeze due to the recession but I know it’s different now. All I could say is a 2-3% increase is pretty standard. Looks like you got more. You might have better luck applying elsewhere.LikeReply14
