For those who are/were in management- At how many years of experience did you get your first job as a manager? How did you make the jump into leadership? For people whose first management role started at a new company, how did you convince them since you had no prior experience in management??
I was in leadership role pretty much immediately, as a project lead. Now I’m an engineering manager and have lots of years of management under my belt. It’s not always fun, there are people’s lives you are impacting. But it has its own rewards and can multiply whatever you were able to accomplish as an individual if you manage a team correctly. By exhibiting competence, good communication skills, and being a team player, you will be recognized very quickly because most people lack one of the three.
