Hey everyone, Just needed to vent a bit about this job hunt. It's been a wild ride, to say the least. Lately, it feels like I'm sending my applications into a black hole, and I'm not alone in this, am I? Interviews seem to be the rarest gems, and job postings seem to disappear as soon as I hit 'apply.' Anyway, I'd love to hear your experiences. What's been your biggest frustration as a job seeker? How do you stay motivated in this crazy journey? Any words of wisdom or empathy to share?
I feel exactly the same. You have to apply early and often for the rare chance your app is seen and even then it might just be a second before it goes into the black hole. My biggest frustration is many salaries are lower for the same experience/role so assuming you get the interview or job, it’s not competitive. I’ve accepted a pay cut is how I will get employment most likely. We’re in a marketing where employers dictate in their advantage. I don’t have much motivation except that you just gotta keep going and now there’s time to do some courses to expand my thinking. And sharing your frustrations with others does help to not feel so alone and a failure in all this .
Like10Every step is a learning journey. How is your resume? Realistically, 6-8 hrs needs to go into it to get it right. Next is how you communicate experience in the screening interview, next is how you communicate value in the management/panel, next is evidencing it in the case study. Get better at each step master your approach. If not knowing where to start, get a coach. The interview skills to pick up will be extraordinary. I used aussie guy, iwantthatjob.com.au he will give you the templates he used as he did with me
iwantthatjob.com.auWhere are you in your job search right now? You've seen a role that you believe in your so...Like4I really hear you! Some really good points mentioned on owning and perfecting the interviewing stages. Applying early can be challenging especially if you come across an opening to find 200 applicants have already applied in 2 days. Have you tried getting referrals? Coffee chats? I just want to encourage you keep at it, you are not alone, I'm also experiencing it and it doesn't help that I need soinsorship. You are going to get that job!
Like1Man same thing here. Luckily I have a job already. The toughest thing is getting to the second/third interview and then not knowing why they didn't want to move forward. I have nothing to work with so I don't know if it's a me issue or a skill issue or what the case is. Just here interviewing doing the same thing over n over. A cycle until 1 hits. The great thing is that it seems like it's just a numbers game. Maybe for us it takes 1500 or more applications to get that job.
Like4Yeah, I’ve dealt with layoffs in the past and this year is the strangest and the hardest. Recruiters don’t seem to have the most basic respect or the empathy. Jobs are rare, too many competition and process are so slow. You’re not alone. We’re all struggling
Like4I feel the same way ..it’s the AI system the companies are using.
Like3It’s been brutal and I’m starting to explore freelancing or starting my own consulting gigs. Tons of interviews and unprofessional hiring process practices are making me annoyed that I’m playing this silly game of the employers market. Getting a job with the amount of education and experience I have should not be this difficult. I’m sure alot of people feel the same. I hope the tables turn soon. And I’m sure companies will wonder why they can’t find any “loyal employees”.
Like4You are definitely not alone. It's been slow process for me as well. There are more people than there are jobs. I'm keeping my head up and not giving up. The process is tedious but I know there's a suitable company out there for your skills and experience.
Like3I have been applying since October 2022, and its been a rollercoaster. I still don't have a full-time role. I cracked multiple interviews, and they still chose not to hire me, and I don't even know the reasons, and it sucks to be in this place. I don't know how to put this shithole together.
