hey guys, i’m an early career professional and I recently interviewed for an entry level role in procurement. is it a red flag if it was hinted / mentioned a few times during the interviews that the role will be stressful? 🥲 I haven’t done much interviewing as I’m pretty fresh in my career so for them to explicitly mention it will be stressful was a first
Nobody here can give you an objective answer about it being a red flag. However, a few comments from someone who’s had many high stress jobs: 1. If they are indicating that it is a high stress role, I would make sure that (1) you are someone who can thrive in a stressful environment and (2) you feel the pay is appropriate for the role. You may even negotiate for it given your ability to operate under high stress conditions. 2. You could ask to speak to others in that group to get a better understanding of the role. This is a good way to get a better idea how that group feels about their roles and responsibilities. 3. Procurement (in particular) can be high stress in industries where there are large scale material shortages or companies where the demand always exceeds the supply. If you are in hardware manufacturing, electrical manufacturing, etc, I have no doubt that this would be high stress with a lot of people pushing you for materials internally and many vendors/suppliers unable to get you the material you need to satisfy your customers. At the end of the day, it’s hard to tell based on the interview alone, but if they indicate that it’s a high stress/fast pace job, I would believe them.
Like6When I hire for a position that is stressful and you have to deal with public face to face and always provide the best service I will say job is stressful. Not always but you need to know there are times that you get stressed so don’t come back and say no one told me .
Like4I would ask them to clarify what they mean by it being stressful because what stresses one person out may be a breeze for someone else. It will also give you insight on whether the stress is from company inefficiency, poor management practices, or because the nature of the job itself is stressful. Cheers
