hi , I’m new here 👋 I have an interview coming up and I’m struggling on how to answer the “tell me about yourself statement question.” I personally don’t like to talk about myself and have the tendency to start talking about me but then I end up talking about what’s on my resume 🤦♀️ any advice ?
As a manager, that’s what I’m asking you to do, tell me about your career. I am not asking for your personal information. Your answer should include any highlights of your past positions that expand on your resume and give me insight into why you are a fit for the position.
Like11You should be talking about your resume. But put a little bit of your personality in it too. Tell them why you love your career and why you're excited about the opportunity. Don't lie, but sell your positives and illustrate why you're the best choice for the role.
Like3Make it short, focus on how you can contribute to this position. You don’t need to disclose anything you don’t want them to know, but prolly where you’re from and education/past exp, what you’re looking for would be enough.
Like1This has been on my mind for quite a while now, but I've learned the best formula for the "tell me about yourself" question in interviews goes: Your name, current title/role and company/industry and a brief description of your day-to-day, and why you are looking for a new opportunity. I like to end it positively saying you're looking to grow and develop your skills and the job you're interviewing for seemed like a good fit!
