I have been invited to a first interview for a digital designer role. I haven't had an interview in about 9 years! (currently 27yrs) I am a bit nervous obviously! They described the interview below we’ll dive into your background, chat about [company name], and do some rapid-fire skill ratings. What is meant by rapid-fire skill ratings? asking me to rate numerically my skills in various software? or something else?
My guess... (from experience as an interviewer and interviewee) They plan to ask you several skills-based questions to evaluate your level of expertise/proficiency. This may happen verbally or on a formal exam. For example, if I want to determine how proficient a candidate is in Excel, I may ask the following: 1. Tell me the steps you would take to locate an existing formula 2. Tell me the steps you would take to create a V-lookup 3. Tell me the steps you would take create a custom formula 4. Tell me the steps you would take to create a pivot table 5. Tell me the steps you would take to convert data into a graphic for a presentation The confidence, accuracy, and speed at which the candidate answers, will measure the candidate's level of proficiency. Keep in mind, if you completely fail this, that does not necessarily mean you won't get hired. A lot of places are focusing more on soft skills, as hard skills can be trained on-the-job. This process would only show them where your skill level is at today. Good luck!
Like3Use chat GPT for interview prep. It has helped me immensely and fortunately I was able to crack both the positions I applied for. Prepare for behavioural questions and also search for the exact term that you are looking for. Also look at YouTube videos when you are at the final rounds of your interview.
Like1Also, feeling nervous is quite normal for almost everyone! The nervousness is only until the interview starts after that you will be into that zone and it will ok. So keep that in mind and aim to give your best, regardless of the outcome. You won’t regret the outcome, when you give your best shot. Prepare with an open mindset. Good luck :)
