Offered a sr manager position. Multi state, with payroll as an added responsibility. It was listed at 90-120k, they offered me 100k with a raise to 110 in 6 months. MCOL headquarters, but locations in HCOL. They asked for my range, I said 120-130. I want to negotiate, but I also am a bit afraid. I’m lacking some audacity lol. What would you counter with? 10+ years of exp, along with 4 years previous management experience.
Ask hiw they can be creative to get you to the 130k. Sign on bonus, renting bonus after 6 months with pay raise and get it all in writing
Like2If the range max was $120k, then $100k was most likely the best offer. They will most likely have to walk away if not able to come to an agreement. The range was upfront, if your needs were at $130k, this never should have moved to offer. Maybe $110k with a 15% bonus, but that still only takes you to $126.5k. You will not be offered $120k as it is the max and leaves no room for growth and development.
Like1So what would you counter? 110 with a raise to 120 in 6 months?
LikeOr 106 with a raise to 115 in 6 months? I’d be ok with this … I just don’t want to not negotiate at all…
LikeLet them know you were really hoping to see $110k or more. Then ask for a few days to think it over. They will either react with a counter or you will know $100k is the best they can do. Your recruiter should have had these conversations with you on the very 1st connect.
Like5Senior Manager position paying $100k? That seems low. If they don't have the budget to pay $120-130, you may want to consider if this company if a good fit for you. They may not be able to compensate any better in the future either.
Like4I feel like the company under-offering to you at this stage is a red flag. I just accepted an offer for $10k above the budget listed on the job description with a $10k sign on bonus and I didn’t have to negotiate. The market is really different though. But I always see the offer as an indication of how they are going to pay and do merit increases over time.
Like4Payroll is for the financial and hr areas of the company, if this position isn't part of these two then asking for $150,000 per year is more than acceptable offer. There is a reason the HR and the financial department are held responsible to do the payroll, and no other departments. It is mainly the protection of the company and more.
LikeIt ended up being a bad fit and I’ve moved on. They were not willing to negotiate anything, and I can see that would have been a mess going forward. Back to the drawing board, unfortunately
