I have been working at Akamai full-time for more than 5 years
Pros
Akamai is a great company to work for. Its culture is based on talent and merit. An employee is generally given all the tools they need to succeed and the rest depends on their hunger and motivation.... Work-Life balance and employee well-being are among the pillars of Akamai culture.
Cons
Honestly, can't find any cons.
I have been working at HubSpot full-time for less than a year
Pros
- Very strong culture – The company very much tries to "walk the walk" and act on the values it espouses - Access to excellent benefits and ability to pursue a flexible work schedule, which makes for... a great quality-of-life - Excellent leadership team who really knows what they're doing - High expectations of the quality of people's work—i.e. requiring work to be data-driven and polished. I feel this helps to keep egos in-check and makes the work environment feel more like a meritocracy. - A great product and product strategy. HubSpot really believes in the power of a good product with a great UX. As a result, it is a very rewarding product to work on, as you don't feel you are building a product to chase business metrics. That said, HubSpot is very data- and experiments-driven and work must align with the company strategy, which is very clear and well defined. However, this research and analysis is done by the product team themselves, not some outside business team, which gives product teams a feeling of ownership and autonomy over their work, even when aligning with company goals.
Cons
Remote lifestyle at HubSpot is difficult because of how spread out everyone is across timezones. It can be very hard to get on someone's calendar, making project planning and brainstorming very... difficult.
Advice to Management
Continue to allow for flexible remote work, but provide easier access to in-person meetings for big project launches and planning. More generally, encourage a culture where it is easier to schedule... spontaneous calls and get on someone's calendar. The emphasis on flexible work schedules is great, but some limits need to be put on it.
