Slow to change but, to their credit, they are working on updating a lot right now. This is an organization that requires patience. There typically isn't a "fast track" upwards as promotions take time..., due to the low employee turnover. Like all companies, the quality of your work life can be very much dependent upon who your immediate supervisor is and personalities can clash. Fortunately, if you are open and honest about wanting a change, they typically will try and accommodate a switch. Not a top paying organization, but (having worked with higher paying organizations) higher pay typically comes with higher stress and a worse culture so I'll take a little less pay for less stress. No easy to understand documents explaining variable pay, but the money typically comes every year so it's hard to complain. However, it would be nice to know what to expect.
Advice to Management
Hosting an annual one day focus group with newly hired employees (with HR, GM's, and ET&D present) to analyze and discuss their onboarding and training experience (both with the Club and with their... prior employers) would prevent honest and necessary feedback from being stifled. Currently, if a new hire has a good idea or pertinent feedback, they must convince all managers between them and the decision makers to act upon it (not a recipe for consistent changes to stay competitive). A general idea email will also not effectively enact change at the speed consistent with the rest of the industry. We need to hear what's going on from the user's mouths and make changes immediately when there is a consensus among new hires.
