Orbis Technologies is an exceptional place to work at. I was blessed with a talented mentor and a wonderful team that supported me in my development. The team I managed was an incredible group of... people and some of the best professionals I ever worked with. The experience you gain by working with various types of people, ability to learn and create new processes and support cutting-edge products makes it an exciting place to re-brand yourself. Orbis is a perfect destination for those who want to be challenged, grow/mature and ultimately move on to larger projects and paydays. Being a smaller company, you are expected to fill in the gaps when needed. This is where your growth will occur. If you are uncomfortable being uncomfortable, this might not be the place for you. The key to success at Orbis Technologies, in my opinion, is to understand that Orbis Technologies is a contractual transaction of give and take. Give them your best effort and take the experience. You will learn how to manage customer, team and management expectations in real time. Simply put, Orbis Technologies is as real as it gets. It's a small company and you will have your hands on multiple, time-sensitive and important tasks. "Career momentum" will occur here, especially on projects that support Defense. You will engage with some powerful people and sometimes higher profile endeavors. The type of experience that can propel you into even bigger opportunities. I owe a lot to Orbis and the team I worked with for this. If you are a junior software developer who needs true mentor-ship, this is definitely a place for you. On the Program Manager level, I can't think of a better place to get your initial experience at. You will be exposed to so many exciting and challenging tasks that you will learn new things on a consistent basis. For Software Developers and people with a desire to work in the Intelligence Community, this is a wonderful place to gain ones clearance and gain access to some of our nations most exciting and classified programs. However, learn the products Orbis offers so you are not left behind when needs change. That's on you.

Cons

I really have no gripes with Orbis Technologies. Like I mentioned before, if you treat Orbis Technologies as a contractual transaction, you can do very, very well here. A lot of terrible things have... been said about the CEO and President and I just do not agree. Is he the coolest guy ever? Probably not, but I would have a beer with him. Would I go on a camping trip with him? No. That would not work. Is he a sound business professional with years of experience? Yes and he works his tail off. The CEO gets an unfair shake here and is a tough person to work for. However, with the right attitude, it is just business. Understand that there is a clock for everyone working not just at Orbis but in all avenues of business. Change is always happening. At the end of the day, the previous post is right, you don't bite the hand that feeds you. Corporate petty politics exist at Orbis. Deal with it. Management allows scope creep to enter into projects and in-fighting for resources ensues. This happens everywhere. Learn to manage it. Various Departments don't synergize well and simple processes become chaotic endeavors of endless reply all emails. So what. Handle it. At the end of the day, its a job. Do your job and Orbis pays you pretty well. You also gain some great experience. Orbis offers competitive salaries and when grouped with a wonderful mentor that I had, there is not much to be upset about at Orbis Technologies. Orbis has a very good work life balance and will work with you if you work with them. Just be real. There is not a tele-work policy in Annapolis. However, work with your manager and it is very easy to come in and out of the office when you need to support other personal endeavors. Use your sick leave, it does not carry over.

Advice to Management

The Chicago Bulls ownership was wrong in the 90s. Organizations don't win championships, the players do. I gave senior management a 1 because other than the Chief Executive Officer and President, who... is a tough man to work for but knows his stuff, the remainder of Vice Presidents get a zero. The players, meaning the software developer, project managers, IT people, Operations people, interns, HR folks, Accounting and Executive Assistants win championships. These are the people who deliver world class products and continually deliver exceptional service for Orbis Technologies. To be frank, there is a merry go round revolving door of under-qualified, under-talented, undertaker and overpaid Vice Presidents who are simply beefing up the overhead, the boardroom and collecting a check. Its incredibly frustrating to see these people to continue consuming Orbis Resources when the producers are not rewarded.
