I worked at Brickman

Pros

Friendly work environment, Paid seminars and conferences, Interesting Field Trips including a Trip for Sports Turf Management where we went to fields at nearby professional stadiums

Cons

The internship included time "in the field" which was necessary/as helpful for my background

I worked at NuServe

Pros

- Very interested in innovation and approaching the cleaning industry with a fresh outlook. - Salary and benefits were on par if not slightly better than most others in the industry.

Cons

- While a family run business can be beneficial to both operations and environment it can also create a toxic circumstance depending on who is given responsibility in key positions. - Out of touch... sales mindset (although efforts were being made to shift this) that left management struggling to keep up with the promises made. - Sometimes 'innovation' was given priority over strengthening the core function and foundation of the business itself.

Advice to Management

I am conflicted in opinion. While I feel Nuserve has good intentions to become an industry leader in innovation within the cleaning industry, I feel that it's downfall could be brought on by a lack... of focus and by allowing its family run ideology to put excess pressure on day to day management of contracts.
