Current Employee - Professional Environmental Engineer

I have been working at Brown and Caldwell full-time for more than 5 years

BC's leadership and culture is strategic, thoughtful, and keeps in mind the organic nature of an organization. I take a lot of pride in our history of innovative approach, fundamental rigor, and... delivery of solutions that make the most sense for each of our clients and am grateful that I get to carry that torch moving forward. Since joining BC, I have been able to work on a variety of projects with a variety of clients and honestly, these are the kind of projects we all wanted to work on while we were still in school. I have had a great number of mentors and advocates encourage me in tough times (whether it be work or personal) and am often provided new and challenging opportunities to help me grow.

As with any consulting firm, the pace of the work is fast and the expectations high. While BC is flexible for employees to find their proper work-life-balance, it is still challenging to balance due... to the competitive nature of the work. Our success, however, is predicated on the growth of our people and growth does not really happen by cruising along, although there are still folks who are content to cruise along (as like in any organization).

Advice to Management

I would like to see us balance our ELM and UT a little bit better. One will always affect the other. If we are able to bill more time on projects at a lower rate, I think most staff will feel less... stressed out, at least when schedule is not a project driver.
