Current Employee - Student Assistant

I have been working at Cal Poly Pomona part-time for more than a year

Pros

Wide range of activities, safety courses, and convenience

Cons

limit on the number of hours you can work as a student

Former Employee - Data Entry Operator

I worked at School Portraits by Kranz full-time for less than a year

Pros

Food truck comes by everyday offering a nice break. They have vending machines that are extremely cheap. Okay data entry work.

Cons

Questionable accounting practices. They tell you they don't pay for overtime, and everyday you normally accumulate a few extra minutes cause you clock in 10 minutes early and leave 3-5 minutes late,... but every paycheck only shows 40 hours on the dot. Not sure if that is legal to remove a few minutes from an employees paycheck...? And when they do authorize overtime you barely see it in your check. Management likes to rule with an iron-fist. The company culture is to stay in your place, be on time, do your job or you'll be replaced. Workers normally don't complain, they just keep their heads down. Senior management will stand behind an employee and talk about them like they are not there, putting them down to their manager within earshot. No room for advancement.

Advice to Management

Don't be so strict with payment that that you cut off an employees 15 extra dollars from them arriving early to do their job. Treat your employees with respect.
