Former Employee - Associate Governmental Program Analyst

I worked at CalPERS full-time for more than a year

Pros

Felt like I was part of a high-performing team, and I still had excellent work-life balance. The defined benefit pension was stellar.

Cons

Some employees were less motivated

I have been working at Caltrans

Pros

Stability, great leadership, career progression and being a civil servant.

Cons

Lack of flexibility, a lot of red tape, archaic processes and low salary.

Advice to Management

Flexibility is essential if you want to attract talented workers. Examine your processes and look for ways to change and become efficient. Most employees want to be busy and challenged.
