- Ministering to the Basic Needs of all families - Population - English and bilingual families speaking Spanish, Creole, Portuguese - Positive environment focused on preparing and providing families... with weekly food bags with dry and fresh goods. - Catholic Charities database used for the registration of beneficiaries and special needs cited. - Semi-private window provided to Pastoral Counselor and family members during the COVID pandemic leading to confidential problems and issues shared and opportunities for Spiritual Care. - Referrals possible - Food Stamps, Rental and Utilities Assistance Applications - Counseling skills developed - Creating a safe and confidential environment, Respect and validation of needs, Active listening, Encouragement, and Prayers offered. - Spiritual counsel provided to families desiring it.
Two locations (during restructuring), but able to maintain consistent supervision. Spiritual Care provided in public setting at second location.
Advice to Management
Due to the COVID pandemic, both locations were adjusting their normal business duties. The first took building windows to conduct family in-takes, 30-40 families daily. Second was flooded with needs... and resorted to paper registration of families and limited record-keeping, serving 125-175 families daily. Volume forced the adjustment of location and need for employees to set up and breakdown physically the operation daily. The managers at both locations were amazing, along with temporary and permanent employees and volunteers. Teams were energized, motivated, and demonstrated a lot of care for families in need.
