I have been working at Cloudera full-time for more than 3 years
The platform depth and breadth is amazing. Over 40 Apache projects supported. Every deal is unique. Multiple entry points into almost any account. 21 Extra, mandatory, and identical vacation days... in 2020 and 2021 across the company for mental health and family during the pandemic. Having them all on the same days means you aren't working "much" (Since the whole company is "off" on the same days) other than Customer Calls while on "vacation". Its sales, so cmon you know you are working a little. Open Source Model provides steady leads for pipeline development.
Complex product portfolio requires curious/disciplined mind to learn it all. Shift to cloud requires steady customer support and hand holding through migrations. When they get there it is great, but... takes time to get them there.
Advice to Management
Worry less about "short term profitability", and spend a lot more money on the cloud development to address all the security, and BCDR requirements customers have. The upside to the stock via growth... in the cloud revenues is far greater than a few points on the Net Income side.
I have been working at SmartThings full-time for more than a year
SmartThings has a huge platform with high volumes of traffic, a plethora of technologies used, and brilliant engineers.
It can be demanding, the world of IOT is moving extremely fast.
Advice to Management
Reliability engineering should be a first class concern. New features are great, but reliability engineering should be a first class product concern that requires continuous investment as it has the... most direct impact on our customers.
