- you will learn an incredible amount. not just about your discipline in tech / design / strategy, but also about how to lead teams, define processes, and help manage multi-million dollar... engagements with some of the biggest clients. - all things considered, it is a flat organization. the doors here are actual glass ... and always open. go to talk to the Partner or President even if they are intense. you won't regret it, they are unbelievably smart and want the best for their employees. - you are given more responsibility as a 20 or 30 something year old than most other places. this is relevant inside and outside of the agency world; it's hard to find a place in which you can own as much as you can here. the learnings are invaluable. - the work we do is honestly great. some hiccups here and there I'm sure, but by and large, our work is what gets us business. - people you work with are dedicated and smart. the ones that aren't do not last long. especially those that don't understand that 50-60 (..even 70+..) hour work weeks are necessary.
- learning curve given the responsibility you'll be tasked with. - intense hours, work environment at times (this seems to be changing, though..) - PR efforts are minimal and should be more of... a strategic focus for the company - not enough company-sponsored social events
Advice to Management
- continue to invest in training new employees - prioritize PR / marketing of the company - continue to build the culture of this company through corporate events; it has much more of an impact... than realized
I worked at Firstborn full-time for more than 3 years
Firstborn is filled with talented, smart, funny, supportive and compassionate people that genuinely care about one another and their work. As a result, there’s strong collaboration across teams and... it’s a really fun work environment. There’s a solid mix of diverse clients and interesting projects, and the company’s focus on craft and emerging tech means that employees are always encouraged to learn new skills, take risks and challenge the status quo. The benefits package is also incredible.
Like most agencies, Firstborn has to work with clients that want more for less and they say they want to be innovative, but they are actually extremely risk-averse. This song-and-dance can be... incredibly frustrating, especially when good work is left on the cutting room floor.
Advice to Management
Continue to be transparent to the agency and proactively invest in the professional development of your talent.
