Current Employee - Storage Platform Solution Specialist

I have been working at Dell Technologies full-time for more than 8 years

Pros

I have been at Dell for 10 years. I started as an inside sales representative with no IT or sales experience and began working my way up through the company as an Account Executive, a Data Center... Sales Executive, Back to an Account Executive role, and up to a Storage and HCI specialist for larger more transformational deals. Pro: Competitive Pay and Great Benefits. The sky truly is the limit if you work hard and push yourself. Our 401k matching, health benefits, and more are amazing. Plenty of vacation time and PBA to help with work/life balance. Pro: We have an incredible company culture that is very diverse and inclusive. Pro: Career opportunities are unlimited. Every time I have wanted to make a move my leadership has supported and encouraged me to do so and has helped to find the role I wanted (and in some cases - the city I wanted to live in) Pro: You are valued here. You are not just a badge number. You are a person. Your opinion matters. They do company wide surveys and listen to your opinions and make changes to better the working environment. Pro: Realistic KPIs, Quotes, Expectations, and more. All obtainable. Pro: Dell is a respected brand in the industry and typically cutting edge with technology

Cons

Con: Since 2012 we have swapped our sales tools more than 5 times. I know the organization has had a lot of changes from being private to public and private again and public again and lots of mergers... and acquisitions so of course tools will change. Our CRM has stayed the same at least but quoting tools have changed a lot and can sometimes be frustrating. Con: Account changes. While it doesn't happen often - it DOES AND WILL happen. We don't get paid when a deal books. We get paid when things ship out. You can spend a year or two working a large deal and if there is an account change and the product hasn't shipped yet - someone else gets credit for your deal. Ideally this doesn't happen frequently but it certainly is a huge CON.

Advice to Management

Do more 360 peer reviews for yourself and your subordinates. We all need that sort of feedback to keep bettering ourselves and it is rarely done anymore.
