Pros

IBEW Local 553 has gone through profound upper management changes and has resolved several serious policy and procedural issues. The overall work environment has improved; communication with union... members and IBEW Union leadership alike has greatly improved. Teamwork among the staff is encouraged.

Cons

In light of the fact that this is a labor union of electrical workers, the upper management positions are elected positions from within the membership of the local. This organizational foundation of... unions leads to the election of leadership personnel who may have little to no experience in business management. This poses unique challenges for the business of the union local.

Advice to Management

Policies related to time-off and benefits need to be created for staff. Leadership training opportunities should be offered.
