Former Employee - Anonymous Employee

I worked at Illinois State Police full-time for more than 10 years

Pros

You'll get to work with some of the most dedicated people you'll ever meet. Great pay, benefits, lots of opportunity.

Cons

It's Illinois, a very political state. It's police department isn't any different.

Advice to Management

Stick to the basics and stop chasing shiny objects. Unending programmes de jour and constant "reorg" of the command structure is destabilizing. The relationships with local agencies suffers because... ISP changes what it looks like more often than Madonna at a concert.

Former Contractor - Staff Attorney

I worked at State of Illinois for more than a year

Pros

Lots of good benefits (if you are salaried), low-stress work environment

Cons

Lower pay than in private practice, high turnover due to political changes/control
