Former Employee - Special Education Teacher

I worked at K12 full-time for more than 3 years

Pros

Working at home online; very supportive administration; numerous effective educational programs; students have more opportunities to self-pace their education; teachers have more opportunities to... provide better differential instruction.

Cons

Online schools depend on a triangular support system: the certified teacher providing curriculum instruction, the parent providing the physical support as the student's learning coach, and the... student taking ownership of his/her educational responsibility. Often, it's the teacher working the hardest, which throws off this educational system. Many parents enroll into an online school thinking all that needs to happen is putting the student in front of the computer and they'll learn from there without the parent's support. Online schools are still a home school program, however, the advantage is that a certified teacher is providing instruction.

Current Employee - Teacher

I have been working at Connections Academy full-time for less than a year

Pros

I absolutely love the flexibility of my schedule, my team, and the work I get to do in this company. The work-life balance is so much greater than being in a traditional school setting, and we get to... be a part of really meaningful work with students in an online capacity.

Cons

Need to be self-motivated and self-disciplined when working from home.
