Former Employee - Graduate Student

I worked at Maclaren full-time for more than a year

Consider working at Maclaren comparable to enrolling in an MBA. Here you are afforded countless opportunities to work on real life business case studies and paid to do so! Yes, you may end up with... little to no say in the final decision, but you are still able to see the entire case through and make recommendations to business executives. I’d say the young professionals that graduate from Maclaren come out more experienced in a 1-2 year time frame than most students do at an accredited university. In order to be successful here one must be able to navigate through numerous unprofessional situations. Including but not limited to: brow beating, belittlement, and lack of responsibility among executives. You need to have the right temperament to allow your experience working at Maclaren grow you professionally. Those that have been in private school their whole lives with tutors and teachers holding their hand through graduation will fail fast. Maclaren is a place where you can use both your digital knowledge and entrepreneurial experience allowing you the freedom to create your own role…but careful with that freedom because too much will kill you.

Almost immediately your job description will change, and you will not be compensated for it. You are told you are being compensated fairly according to the median to high scale. On paper this is... true, but in reality, due to a drastic change in your job functions this is not the case. The office culture is more comparable to a military boot camp than a standard office environment. This however could be considered a pro because the comradery among colleagues is rich.

Advice to Management

Read Section B of the "Glassdoor Terms of Use" Stop believing in horizontal hierarchy. If you build a ladder too high, it’s actually most dangerous for the people at the top.
