Current Employee - Management

I have been working at Mark's full-time for more than 10 years

Pros

Large, Canadian organization! Low turnover at Store Mgr Level and above! Good products with good innovation. Company is definitely trying to move into the current century

Cons

Disorganized method of doing business, Respect for People- has left the building!, No one ever talks about sales!!!???? Absent leadership from the Regional VP levels.... "ignore it and it will go... away" seems to be the mindset. People need to see PEOPLE!

Advice to Management

DM's visit stores, regularly. AVP's don't. Not sure why this is allowed? Get out of the office and speak to the people who can give valuable information regarding your business trends, customer... feedback, and give these people some recognition...

Former Contractor - Front Line Staff

I worked at Mountain Equipment Co-op for less than a year

Pros

Phenomenal co-workers, friendly and understanding management who have moved up through the company themselves, great work life balance. One thing that always struck me was how much everyone seemed to... 'get it'. Even upper management were all passionate about something and all worked hard so they could get out and do what they loved the rest of the time, making for a fun, supportive atmosphere when at work. When working, honesty with customers always encouraged, which was nice. Hard workers seem to get rewarded with promotions fairly quickly.

Cons

Retail can suck, but that's not MEC's fault. High standard of work is expected, but a) it's retail so that's not too hard to achieve and b) I consider high standards a good sign, and a bit of a... compliment, seeing as I wasn't fired.
