Former Employee - Software Engineer

I worked at Microsoft full-time for more than a year

Pros

Casual. The campus in Redmond is huge. there are a lot of different things to work on (aka you can switch teams fairly easily).

Cons

Sometimes too big can be annoying for typical reasons, but overall it's a great place to work.

I have been working at Construx Software

Pros

You are able to set your own workload and pick your own assignments. The pay is good and directly tied in an objective manner to how much you contribute. You have a direct impact on the individuals... and corporations the company serves.

Cons

Assignments are primarily short-term consulting and training engagements with very little hands-on work. There are no teams in the traditional since as everyone is very experienced and mostly working... on individual assignments or loosely collaborating on larger engagements.
